Museum in progress is an art association whose aim is to develop innovative forms of presentation for contemporary art, since the concept is that the new type of museum has to be more like a ‘producer of energy’. Museum in progress organizes exhibitions in medias such as newspapers, magazines, billboards, facades of buildings, TV and internet, appearing extremely frequently in public spaces and bringing art into everyday life. Its partners are, for example, Der Standard (Austrian newspaper), Gewista (a billboard advertising company) and ORF Kultur (cultural department of Austrian national TV and radio). An indispensable precondition for the activities of the group is the independence of the artistic decision, protected by binding contracts with numerous partners; the projects are made possible by the cooperation with the artpool sponsoring group made up of international companies supporting freedom for contemporary art. The work of museum in progress is media-specific, context-dependent and temporary.
